I have trained with several fighters back in 2012. Being around them I never had the need to follow anyone. I remember being at Cage Titans and a name caught my attention because it is mom’s name, Laly.
All I got to see was the ref say, “Ready to fight? Go!” That was it, I looked down to grab my camera and the fight was over. Never had I witnessed anything like that before. I believe that fight was :19 seconds. That night I wasn’t even able to watch the fight because he completed his mission as soon as he heard, “Fight”.
Sean Lally is one of the first fighters I started to follow. Sean Lally changed my thinking of fighting all together. Prior to that I heard several fighters say, “When I get in the cage I am going to put on a show, and then I will knock my opponent out.” Every time I heard that, the opposite happened. Fighters seem to get caught up in the entertainment of it that they forget their own skills. When for me the most exciting part was to see how long it would take for a fighter to finish a fight with their skill set.
When I saw that Sean Lally would be fighting all I could think of was, “Will he beat his own record?” That to me was the show, that was entertaining, that’s what it was all about for me. Seeing someone walk into a cage, and just knock the person out with a kick or a hook. I mean, could it get any better than that? I recommend you look at his fights and see for yourself.
A fighter, a veteran, a brother, a son, a man that made sure each role he had met its need. Not one was compromised. And then one day in front of the whole crowd he showed everyone that when it comes to his sister, there is nothing that will get in the way. Not his fight, not his team, NOTHING.
One of the greatest honors was to witness his sister sing, in the most angelic voice, the national anthem. Honoring not only her country, also her brother that fought for our country. The way he supported her was something that cannot be described. I didn’t even know who to cheer for, her, or for him, for being the most supportive brother.
In order for you to be able to see how he honors his family, country, and passion. You will have to wait until next year when he walks back into the cage. Due to his fight being canceled this year he will not be fighting in 2020. He has decided to continue to be a fighter and fight once a year so he can be present in the other aspects of his life.
Know your fighters, know their story, and remember they may be a beast in the cage. They are also the beauty in their family. Make sure you meet each side. Try not to be in the cage with the beast. If you do, you will definitely get first hand with the beast.
